How to be smart and accomplished without people hating you?

Let's say someone is a medical student. And whenever they say something other people disagree with them and start arguments. The medical student is not arrogant and tries their best not to be condescending, but other people have lots of pride and like to believe they are the smartest thing around. Thus, when they meet the med student they become extremely insecure. This tends to happen a lot.
